The Chamber Choir and its soloists will present its biennial Wreath Of Carols in Frist Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, 508 Franklin Street, at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 12. The concert, part of the church's Community Artist Series, is free and open to the public.
The Wreath Of Carols, an audience favorite is presented in a collage form. One piece flows into the next with no stopping. The only time for applause is at the end of each half of the concert. From time to time the audience is asked to join the choir in familiar carols. Various solos are interspersed with the choral pieces. The program is a mixture of familiar and lesser-known Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany music that ranges from 16th century polyphony through unusual 20th century compositions. Composers such as Alden Ashforth, recently retired from UCLA, Orlando di Lasso, the widely traveled 16th century Burgundian master, the American Pachelbel (not the famous German), and Johannes Brahms stand side by side. Folk and folk-like carols make up a generous portion of the afternoon's fare. Fourteen choral pieces will be joined by nine solos.
The Wreath Of Carols has been presented by the Chamber Choir twenty two times. Lately it has been sung every other year. It has proven to be a favorite of audiences and choir alike. No two have ever been the same.
