Conductor's Notes and Program -

The concert is designed to take the listener on an emotional journey through the many interpretations of love by the use of distinguished texts and soul inspiring melodies.  The featured piece, Daniel Pinkham’s Wedding Cantata, fits this theme precisely.  Based on the poems from the Song of Songs from the Old Testament, the text explores all of the various kinds of love – love of God, young love, new love, and growth of love.  The third movement is designed to create a competition between the men and the women of the choir to demonstrate whose love is stronger.  You will have to attend the concert to see who wins.

Other works on the program include Franz Biebl’s Ave Maria, Sing me to Heaven by Daniel Gawthrop, Morton Lauridsen’s “Dirait-on” from Les Chansons des Roses, and Amor De Mi Alma (You Are the Love Of My Soul) by Z. Randall Stroope.  These pieces not only demonstrate the choir’s musical expertise, but also their command of several foreign languages.

Mr. Clark is dedicating this concert to his wife Solee, a native of South Korea.  Mrs. Clark, a concert pianist and winner of several awards, will be the featured performer for this concert.  She shares the co-directorship of music at First Congregational Church with her husband.  She will be receiving her doctoral degree in piano performance from West Virginia University later this year.  For this performance, she has selected movements 1 and 2 from Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Major, op. 109.
