We don’t get much time to look back and “survey the wreckage” at the end of a season before the next one is right around the corner. Auditions to hold, program themes and music to select, venues to arrange for – all of them come charging at us at record speed.
We had a great 2010-2011 season.
The highlight had to be the Bach/Mozart program in January. The student solo quartet from Western Michigan University was a delight. Not only were they wonderfully prepared, but they were intensely musical and readily adaptable. In addition, they were young people of great individual charm. We hope to do the student quartet thing again. In addition, with Gabe Slimko’s help, we put together for that concert one of the best orchestras we’ve had in a long, long time – maybe ever.
We are starting out this season at St. Mary’s Church, one of our favorite venues on Saturday, November 5 at 7:30 P.M. The program is “About Saints.” We’ll sing about St. Mary, St. Cecelia, St. Stephen, Thomas Aquinas, unnumbered saints, Saints Bound for Heaven, and others.
The calendar year will close for us with two performances with the West Michigan Symphony. We will be joined by the Chamber Choir of Grand Haven High School. Guest conductor John Dodson will preside at the podium. It’s an interesting program he’s developed and we and the kids will have a good time with it.
February through May will see concerts on February 18 and May 12, with an appearance at the annual Shoah Remembrance Service on April 29. |
